People Over Profit Pt. 2

In the previous episode we covered the first 2 levels of Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. In this episode we are going to be covering the last 3, and some questions to ask yourself about your leadership techniques!

Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs:

  1. Physiological
  2. Safety
  3. Love
    • Relationships, family, friendships, intimacy
    • Occasionally our needs may be surpassed by other desires, but we ultimately require relationship and love needs
  4. Esteem
    • There are two versions of esteem needs
      • “Lower” : respect from others, need for status, recognition, fame, prestige, and attention
      • “Higher” : Self Respect, strength, competence, mastery, self-confidence, independence and freedom
  5. Self Actualization
    • “What a man can be, he must be” – Maslow
    • This level allows you to realize your fullest potential
      • Partner acquisition, parenting, utilizing and developing talents and abilities, pursuing goals

Questions to Ask yourself if you are a business owner, manager, or leader:

  1. What are you doing to retain your people?
  2. Do you appreciate them, or are you driving them like dogs?
  3. Do you trust them to get the job done?
